- Build user-facing AI products in production at Mailchimp scale: generative subject-line suggestions (cost instrumentation, circuit-breaker fallbacks so a slow model never blocks a customer), and the tool-calling surface behind a conversational campaign assistant — grounding guardrails, idempotency, and a golden-dataset eval harness measuring quality over time.
- Shipped an MCP tool-server for operational troubleshooting as a registered internal platform service, and designed AI-assisted incident routing (deterministic rules with an LLM fallback) through the company's responsible-AI review.
- Technical lead for migrating Mailchimp's core campaign-management infrastructure off a nine-year-old PHP monolith: a GraphQL facade service (Java/Spring Boot) fronting three legacy backends, with an additive-only, feature-flag-gated migration pattern — 700+ merged PRs across 5 repositories in a few months. A Redis cache-aside layer took the highest-traffic page's p99 from 52 seconds to under 2.5 (~20x).
- Build with AI coding agents daily — multi-agent delivery workflows, shared agent skills for team automation, and an adversarial-review habit for anything agent-authored.
Before that
- Architected role-based access control and identity systems for a CRM product — build-vs-buy analyses, staged rollouts from 0.1% of traffic, specs signed off at director and VP level. Scaled a public API gateway 10x (50 → 500 TPS) with circuit breakers, bulkheads, and a formal load-testing program.
- Designed the company's A/B experimentation framework — mutual exclusion across overlapping experiments, statistically rigorous holdout groups — and consolidated two divergent internal experiment systems into one.
- Six years in payments and growth engineering: the company's first localized-pricing initiative, a new tiered billing model, a payment-vendor migration under a hard deadline, and tax/compliance systems — thousands of merged PRs on revenue-critical infrastructure.
